Our baby is now three months old and has been sleeping in the Phil & Teds for a few weeks. It's lightweight and hardly takes up any space in a fully packed car. Here's the full pro & cons list:



Pros:

- Lightweight & Size

- Baby sleeps well

- Easy to clean, especially since no sheet is necessary

- Fairly easy to assemble, but not as quick as pack & plays or the baby bjorn

- Durable, at least we have not had any issues with the product unlike the other reviews

- Looks cool!



Cons:

- Does not double up as a playpen; at least we have not tried to use it as one since our baby is only three months, but I have a feeling it would not work well

- Can be painful on the back to lower and pick up a sleeping baby

- Not easy to fit everything into a bag and therefore it takes longer to breakdown then it does to put it together

- Others have pointed out that this is not likely to work for a 2-3 year old since it's not as large or as stable as a pack & play, but the jury is still out on this point for us.



Overall, I am happy with the purchase since it perfectly fit our need of traveling with the baby in a fairly small car. [...] If I spent over [...] then I have a feeling my review would be a bit harsher, but I think I got a great deal!

I have twins and decided to try ordering both a PeaPod travel bed with self-inflating mattress and this Phil and Ted's traveller travel cot for my fifteen month old twins that are very tall(outgrowing traditional pack and play/play yard). The PeaPod was much easier to assemble and over half the price, although if you want an open top similar to a crib, the PeaPod is more like a closed tent. My kids love the PeaPod so far because I have allowed them to play in it and given them play time in our home to get them more comfortable with it. I could only find one PeaPod color (camo blue, not my favorite at first) that comes with a self-inflating mattress, but the color is nice and dark for sleepy toddlers. I have to admit that I am disappointed with the Phil and Ted traveller because I don't like that the mattress has to be zippered in a nylon sleeve and the expectation is that the baby/toddler sleeps on Nylon by this company. One of the reviews on another site recommended inserting a comforter or blanket in the bottom for the baby/toddler to sleep on. For the money that I paid for this item, shouldn't a form fitted washable child pad of some sort be a part of what I purchased? The PeaPod came with a "sleeping blanket" that is very thin, shaped to the size of the product and washable. I have no idea yet what I am going to put at the bottom of this P&T's travel bed to try to convince my toddlers that it is even close to their own crib! I will update my review if I find a way to make the bottom of the P&T travel bed comfortable and safe for one of the twins.



Update: I did not put the mattress in the sleeve of P&T travel bed as instructed. I just put it inside, and used a matress pad and crib sheets from their regular crib. This worked well... Please note - This would not be an alternative for babies under 1 year. After using both types of beds for several different vacations, either one will work, but the P&T more closely resembles a smaller, more portable version of a real crib. It is more difficult to put together but it is made to be extremely sturdy. It is also more expensive, but my kids had an easier time adapting to it when we were away from home. If money is a concern, the peapod is an excellent option too (use your matress pad and crib sheets from your home), but you need to convince your kids that it is a great tent to sleep in.

My wife and I purchased two of these for our kids. We travel to the beach quite often and use one on the beach and one at the house. Our kids are far from rough on the travelers, but we have had 3 of them break on us. The stitching for the leg supports and the cords to the legs are usually the breaking piece. The good thing is that the company backs their product and after emailing them a picture of the damage, they were very quick to send out a new replacement. We are currently on our fifth and sixth ones right now, hoping that the construction will get a little better.

We just purchased this item, and we must say that we like it. We understand about the poor picture instruction, but the written instruction clearly tells you what to do. It took us less than 5min to put it together the 1st time. When you put the two shorter rails, make sure to put in the long side rails (horizontal ones) first, makes things easier that way. Our kid is almost 11mths now, she is super active, but she loves to be in it to play and to sleep. I suppose one drawback is that it does not have the place to attach sheet. Because our little one has rash on her face which she rubs on the bed, I personally made a fleece inlay with velcro so that she can sleep comfortably instead of sleeping straight on the nylon and making her cheek worse. This still fits into the bag, together with everything else. We travel overseas, especially in Asian countries, and P&T is good because many hotel rooms in Asia can be very small at times and it is nice to have the option of folding it up. We looked at other travel cot too, but we liked the size and shape of it when it was folded up, plus the fort-like look that kids love. The size may not seem the best for 3 year-old kids, depending on how big your 3yo is, but our cousin's 3yo kid likes how it is cosy. Durability? We will just have to see how long this will be at work!

Okay, so I'm a gadget guy - a lifetime of too many James Bond movies. The Phil and Teds Traveller bed is a very cool gadget - when you put it together it looks like a very small tent. Very clean look, extremely sturdy, very light, and packs up surprisingly easily into the included carrying bag (I've heard complain about that, but it is much easier than getting a real tent or air mattress back into a carrying case).



I only have three complaints, two are fairly minor. The major one is that it did take a while to figure out how to put it together - read the instructions, which aren't incredibly clear (here's the tip - put together the 4 pieces of the top of the frame, and _then_ attach to the legs). The minor ones are that the zipper is fairly loud (so you might wake up your baby when you put him into it) and because the mattress slides into a sleeve at the bottom of the travel bed, it's difficult to attach a sheet to anything.



But all three of those are fairly minor. Even the one about the instructions. After two or three times of putting the travel bed together, I can do it in minutes.



If you travel a lot, if you go camping, I would definitely recommend this travel bed.

Our child is 7 months old now - and we love so many things about this traveller - it is lightweight, I feel that she is very safe in it, it looks cool, and can use indoors and outdoors.



However, I agree with so many of the other reviews - two main issues with this:

1) It takes longer to try to get it all in the carry bag than it takes to break it down. The bag should really be bigger - it is quite the ordeal to stuff it all in - that is annoying when we are trying to leave a place.

2)It really is a problem that the vinyl doesn't have a cover - I tried to put a sheet down, but it slides all to one side once she starts moving. The vinyl wakes her up at times when she moves on it - it is loud for her.



Having said that, I am still glad we decided on this item rather than a bulky pack-n-play.



I think if the company could address these two main issues- somehow get a sheet cover that is safe and works well and make a bigger carry bag - then this would be the traveller crib to get.

We bought this item to replace our old Phil & teds travel cot model - the main feature that we liked was the side zip opening (seems more practical to us for younger babies). It is very sturdy and takes up a little less floor space due to the design. It doesn't pack up quite as compact but still a much better option than the bulky pack n plays out there. We are very pleased.



There a couple negatives - our 2.5 year old son was able to unzip the side opening from the inside (he hasn't slept in a travel crib for at least a year, so it wasn't too much of a bother to us), he was just "testing" it out.



The other downside is zip sleeve opening in the bottom for the mattress. Although very well meaning, I don't like that you are then laying baby directly onto the nylon material, we have always put a normal crib size sheet over the mattress on our old model and will continue to do so with this one despite that feature.
